New York parks and recreation aide Dariel Vasquez died while battling a forest fire in Orange County on Saturday, New York state officials said.

New York has issued a statewide burn ban, while New Jersey is on the verge of issuing a drought warning as firefighters continue to battle the now 5,000-acre wildfire on the border of the two states.

The Jennings Creek wildfire is still burning as of Monday morning, according to officials. The wildfire has burned 5,000 acres, spanning from New Jersey to New York and is only 20% contained, according to Bryan Gallagher,
