Mahmoud Khalil, the pro-Palestinian activist who was detained by the Trump administration last week, has asked a federal court to block Columbia University from sending his student disciplinary records to a House committee.

Mahmoud Kahlil, a Columbia University student who protested Israel’s war in Gaza, sued to block the turnover of disciplinary records to a U.S. House committee.

Khalil, a Columbia University graduate student who was born in Syria to Palestinian parents and is now a permanent U.S. resident, was arrested Saturday night by federal immigration agents at at his university-owned residence.

Prominent Palestinian activist Mahmoud Khalil will remain in an ICE detention facility in Louisiana for now following a procedural hearing in New York, days after he was arrested by federal officials at his Columbia University residence in an attempt by the Trump administration to deport him.

Trying to deport Khalil for demonstrating against Israel is an obvious violation of his rights and an attempt to intimidate others, they say.

The Trump administration has not been subtle about its intentions. A White House official, speaking anonymously to the Free Press, told the right-leaning media organization that Khalil’s arrest would be a “blueprint” for other actions.

In an amended habeas petition, detained Columbia student activist Mahmoud Khalil accused President Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio of abusing the power of the federal government to send a political message.
