Drug lord Rafael Caro Quintero has long been wanted by the DEA for killing of agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena in 1985.

Mexico will extradite to the United States drug lord Rafael Caro Quintero, convicted of murdering a U.S. anti-narcotics agent in 1985, and more than two dozen other suspected cartel members, sources told Reuters on Thursday.

Cartel leaders Rafael Caro Quintero and Vicente Carrillo Fuentes are set to be arraigned in a U.S. federal court in New York City on Friday, following their surprise transfer from Mexico. The pair were among 29 Mexican prisoners sent Thursday to eight cities across the U.

Mexico extradited 29 people accused of being involved in drug cartels to the U.S. on Thursday, the Department of Justice announced. The big picture: The move is a part of President Trump's vow to crack down on cartels for what he called in an executive order a "campaign of violence and terror" that saw him designate eight drug cartels as global terrorist organizations last week.

Mexico has sent infamous drug lord Rafael Caro Quintero to the United States along with 28 other prisoners requested by the U.S. government. Caro Quintero was behind the killing of a U.S. DEA agent in 1985.

Mexico's attorney general's office and the security ministry confirmed that officials were handing over 29 cartel figures to the U.S.

Those extradited reportedly include Rafael Caro Quintero, long sought in the killing of a U.S. narcotics agent.

Alleged drug cartel boss Rafael Caro Quintero, who spent decades in prison in Mexico for the murder of a U.S. drug enforcement agent, pleaded not guilty in a U.S. court on Friday to drug trafficking charges that could result in his execution.

"Caro Quintero, a cartel kingpin who unleashed violence, destruction, and death across the United States and Mexico, has spent four decades atop DEA's most wanted fugitives list, and today we can proudly say he has arrived in the United States where justice will be served," DEA Acting Administrator Derek S. Maltz said in a press release.

MEXICO CITY – Mexico on Thursday (Friday in Manila) extradited some of its most notorious imprisoned drug lords to the United States to avert sweeping
