The Polk County School Board has approved an electronic school bus monitoring program to help school administrators and parents track students and drivers going to and from the district's schools.

Polk County has issued 6,886 citations to drivers in the first half of the school year, who were caught on camera failing to stop, when a school bus stop arm is out.

That incident, captured by a camera affixed to the bus, illustrates why Polk County Public Schools signed a contract last year with Verra Mobility Corp. to have cameras installed on all its buses.
