Two top officials in the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau resigned Tuesday as the Trump administration takes aim the bureau and its employees.

The U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau was rapidly defanged over the weekend with all activities suspended, its upcoming funding facing a cut and its headquarters temporarily shuttered, removing a layer of oversight over consumer-facing financial companies.

President Trump and other critics of the agency say it needs to be shut down. Supporters of the agency point to its record of protecting consumers.
