The Los Angeles Sparks signaled their intent to accelerate the timeline of their rebuild with the acquisition of All-Star guard Kelsey Plum in a sign-and-trade deal during WNBA free agency. It’s a new beginning for Plum, who had spent the first eight seasons of her career with the Las Vegas Aces.

Following a Kelsey Plum trade to the Los Angeles Sparks, they released second-year guard, Zia Cooke. The former South Carolina basketball star had a sophomore slump compared to her rookie season. She only averaged 3.6 points in 8.9 minutes per game. Cooke didn't start a game, compared to 2023, where she started four of her 39 games.

On social media, Plum posted a video of her wearing all-black Under Armour jacket and pants. As the video played, the two-time WNBA champion pulled down the zipper of her jacket to reveal the Sparks jersey underneath it, all while beaming a huge smile.

The deal sees six-time All-Star Jewell Loyd go from the Storm to the Aces and three-time All-Star Kelsey Plum sent from Las Vegas to the Sparks, per ESPN. The Storm will receive the No. 2 pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft and Li Yueru from the Sparks — who are getting the No. 9 selection from Seattle. The Storm will be picking at No. 13 via the Sparks.
