The family of a Texas girl who died by suicide is demanding accountability from her school district, saying the 11-year-old was bullied by classmates who threatened to call immigration agents on her parents. A vigil for Jocelynn Rojo Carranza is planned in Gainesville at 5 p.m. Saturday.

In the wake of the tragic death of Jocelynn Rojo Carranza, a young girl who reportedly died by suicide after being relentlessly bullied over her immigration status, everyone from George Lopez to Texas senators has taken to social media to rally against this tragedy and offer condolences.

In late January, students at Jocelynn Rojo Carranza’s school spread rumors and speculation that immigration authorities would deport families of students at the largely Hispanic school, according to a parent and another student.

In February 2025, social media users claimed an 11-year-old girl in Texas took her own life after bullies at her school threatened to report her family to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to get them deported. One Instagram user posted a photo allegedly showing the girl ( archived ), with text beneath the picture reading:

I want justice for my child. I want this not to go unhandled. If there are more students out there going through it as well," said Marbella Carranza.
