It looks like athletics are staying at Holt High School in Tuscaloosa County, despite a post on the school’s website last week suggesting otherwise.

An Alabama high school that announced it will cut varsity athletics has rolled back on its decision. ABC 33/40 first reported on Monday that Tuscaloosa County School System superintendent Dr. Keri Johnson told attendees of a meeting athletics will remain at Holt High School.

Holt High School will be ending varsity athletics after the 2025-26 school year. Holt High students will be able to play sports at other schools.

Current and future Holt High School athletes won't be shuffled elsewhere in the Tuscaloosa County School System after residents fought against a plan to end athletics there.
